Mt. Prospect asks: Are you prepared?

The Mount Prospect Fire Department will host a Family Emergency Preparedness Night at 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Police and Fire Headquarters, 112 E. Northwest Hwy. Entire families are encouraged to attend to build an emergency kit, develop a family action plan, learn where in the village to go for help during a disaster, review and exercise all your skills with many interactive learning stations.

This program is open to residents to drop in. Space will be limited so register early at mountprospect.org. Families who participate at each learning station will be entered into a drawing for a free fire engine ride to school.

Holocaust survivor, author at EGHS

Be a witness to living history Saturday, May 16 by meeting Sidney Finkel, Holocaust survivor, author and speaker, at 9 a.m. in the Elk Grove High School Theater.

The event is free; no reservations are required.

Finkel has shared his experience as a child and adolescent in Poland during WWII with over 120 schools. He has been featured on WTTW Channel 11 and written his autobiography: "Sevek and the Holocaust: The Boy Who Refused to Die."

From the Jewish ghetto, to the cattle cars, to Buchenwald and beyond, Finkel recounts how he survived and what he learned through his experience.

A Q&A with Finkel and a book signing will follow his talk. Copies of the book will be sold for $10.

This event is sponsored by Christus Victor Lutheran Church's Saturday Morning Women's Bible Study. Parking will only be available in front of the school or on the street.

Football signup at Gary Morava Center

Football registration for Prospect Heights and Wheeling will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Gary Morava Recreation Center, 110 W. Camp McDonald Road, Prospect Heights

The Prospect Heights/ Wheeling Football Association is a nonprofit travel football and cheerleading program with kids ages 5-14. It was established more than 25 years ago, and is run by volunteers from both communities.

Players compete in the Chicagoland Youth Football League, the largest youth football league in the area. PHWFA offers flag football to ages 6-8, tackle football to ages 8-14 and cheerleading to ages 6-14.
