Rockford man charged in Bolingbrook slaying

A Rockford man has been charged in connection with a what authorities are describing as a violent rampage during a family dispute at a Bolingbrook home Thursday morning that left a woman dead and two others seriously injured.

Authorities said Karl O. Tynes, 28, stabbed 36-year-old Nicola Williams several times during the fight before turning the knife on 31-year-old Donnell Williams. Nicola Williams died of the injuries she suffered.

Donnell Williams and another man, Keyartred Williams, 32, also were shot by Tynes, but survived their injuries, police said, adding that the relationship of the three victims was not immediately known.

Police are still searching for Tynes, who is believed to have fled to Rockford. Police there located the car, but Bolingbrook police said it had been set on fire and was gutted in the blaze.

Meanwhile, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow charged Tynes with first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy said Tynes entered the home on the 100 block of Lancaster Drive at 6:30 a.m. and started a fight with his victims.

Some children, who were in the home at the time but located in a backroom away from the argument, heard the fighting and then heard gunshots, the chief said. The children left the backroom and went to where the argument and gunshots were heard. They saw the three people shot on the floor and left the house to get help.

"The children also saw the offender flee out the front door of the home," McCarthy said. "It is believed the offender is a cousin of the homeowners."

After seeing the injured adults, McCarthy said, two of the children left the house and walked to the nearby village hall nearby looking for help.

As the children were being questioned, a public works employee found Keyartred Williams in the parking lot of village hall.

Donnell Williams was found in a neighbor's home, police said. Nicola Williams was found dead inside the house. Police officials said they recovered the weapons at the scene.

The two injured men were transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Both are in stable condition after being shot in the chest, police said.

McCarthy said one of the victims is being uncooperative with police.

The motive for the shootings remains unclear at this time, but it appears to be a family dispute, authorities said.

"This did not involve an employee of the village hall or have anything to do with the village except that the incident was reported here," he said.
