Herman's Hermits to play fest:

Herman's Hermits is the latest act to sign on to play at Ribfest in Naperville this summer. The band will take the stage July 3 in Knoch Park as part of the annual festival sponsored by the Naperville Exchange Club. Peter Noone and his 1960s pop band were known for hits like "I'm into Something Good," "I'm Henry VIII, I Am," and "The End of the World." Other Ribfest headliners include Heart and Huey Lewis and the News.

State warns of alleged mortgage scheme:

An Oak Brook company is one of nine mortgage and real estate firms and individuals to lose their operating license in a state investigation alleging they defrauded at least three unsuspecting Chicago-area homeowners. Trust One Mortgage Corp. and its owner, Paul L. Shelton, were caught up in a net cast in the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's mortgage fraud task force. State officials said the firm defrauded a 77-year-old woman in a South Side Chicago neighborhood.

West Chicago burglaries:

West Chicago police are warning residents to follow simple safety tips after a rash of recent car break-ins. The thefts happened primarily overnight in the downtown residential area, between Washington and National streets, as well as Arbor Avenue and Route 59. Police advise to: roll up windows and lock all doors; close garage doors; remove valuables; never leave cars running and unattended; park in well lit areas; don't hide a spare key in or on your vehicle. Police search for burglar:

Naperville police are searching for suspects involved in a recent spat of apartment burglaries. Early April 29, several apartments at 1604 Lonsdale in the Amil of Naperville apartment complex were burglarized. Several items of jewelry were stolen. One victim reported having a man solicit funds for an unknown "special needs organization" two days earlier but it is unknown if the person is related to the incidents. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information. Call (630) 420-6006.

Teacher bowling for charity:

Naperville Central High School teacher Brian Dunn will attempt to become the fastest person on record to hit 10,000 bowling pins at a fundraiser from 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Brunswick Zone 1515 Aurora Ave. in Naperville. Proceeds will benefit Leukemia research. Dunn is looking for pledges per pin, hour or game. Call (630) 420-6649 or (630) 369-2736.
