Nanotech info session:

Lake County residents can learn more about career and educational opportunities in the field of nanotechnology as Harper College, the only community college in the state to offer an associate degree in Nanoscience Technology, hosts an open house at 6 p.m. Monday, May 18 in Room X250, on the second floor of the College's Avanté Center. The session will introduce the field of nanoscience and related careers, showcase Harper's state-of-the-art laboratory and allow participants to view items of their choice under the kind of high-resolution microscope used in the profession. Harper launched its Nanoscience Technology degree last fall. Since then, the program has expanded, and Harper has partnered with the College of Lake County to offer the degree to Lake County residents for in-district tuition rates. Asbestos at state park discussed:

Community members can learn more about the investigation of asbestos at Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park at two community availability sessions Thursday. Studies that included air sampling showed asbestos levels below detection in most samples with the conclusion that asbestos-containing material does not present a health hazard to people using the beach for recreational purposes. The public sessions are 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Illinois Beach Resort & Conference Center, One Lake Front Drive, Zion. Representatives from federal and state agencies will present findings and respond to questions. To view the findings, visit atsdr.cdc.gov/sites/illinois_beach_state_park/. Lake County GOP offering internships:

The Lake County Republican Central Committee is accepting applications for summer internships. Interns will receive wide exposure to all aspects of grass roots campaigning and report to a professional campaign manager. There will be leadership opportunities available for qualified applicants. A small stipend will be paid for all those who complete the program.
