Lake Co. authorities looking for man who tried to abduct student

Lake County Sheriff's police are searching for a man who reportedly harrassed and tried to abduct a 17-year-old girl near Stevenson High School.

Officials said in a news release Tuesday the girl was walking to the high school Monday about 9:20 a.m. on Apple Hill Road, just east of Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Lincolnshire, when she was approached by the man driving in a medium-sized, white four-door vehicle.

The suspect, described to be in his 50s with gray hair and bright, blue eyes, asked the girl if she was walking to school, but she did not respond. He then asked her if she would like a ride to school, but she refused, officials.

The man, who was also described as having a heavy Russian or Eastern European accent, then ordered the girl to get in the vehicle three times. According to a news release, the girl told police the man became more aggressive each time she refused.

After the third time, the teen ran to her parked car near the area, and locked herself inside.

The suspect, police said, drove away from the scene in unknown direction.

Anyone with information about the suspect should contact the Lake County Sheriff's office at (847) 377-4000.
