NIU's Simon signs with Saints

Northern Illinois receiver Matt Simon, who had a tryout at the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp last weekend, has signed a free-agent contract with the team.

Simon joins fellow NIU teammates Larry English (San Diego Chargers, 16th overall pick) and wide receiver Britt Davis (New York Jets free agent) on NFL rosters.

The 6-1, 199-pound Simon caught 96 passes for 1,660 yards and 8 scores in 44 games during his Northern Illinois career to average 17.3 yards per catch.
