Fox Lake man accused of choking wife, stabbing son

A 47-year-old Fox Lake man is in jail after stabbing his son and choking his wife during a fight inside their apartment on Mother's Day, Fox Lake police said Monday.

Vincent Wilson, of the 100 block of Breezy Point Lane, is charged with armed violence, aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery, Lt. Jeff Norris said. Wilson is held in Lake County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond, of which he must post 10 percent.

If convicted of the most serious class X felony charge of armed violence, Wilson could be behind bars for up to 30 years.

The trouble began about 7 p.m. when the 15-year-old male victim and his girlfriend heard Wilson and the victim's stepmother fighting in a bedroom. When they investigated, they found Wilson with his hands around the woman's throat, attempting to choke her, Norris said.

The teen jumped on Wilson, Norris said, and pulled him off the stepmother, which caused the fight to spill over into the kitchen area. There, Wilson grabbed a pair of kitchen shears and slashed at his son, cutting him in the rib area, Norris said.

"From there, the victim, the stepmother and the victim's girlfriend were able to escape the house and run to a neighbors," Norris said. "When the three left and called police, Wilson hopped into his truck and drove away."

The son was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry where he was treated for nonlife threatening injuries and released, Norris said. His stepmother was also treated and released from the hospital Sunday night, he added.

At the same time, police issued a statewide alert for Wilson's truck. Norris said a Lake County sheriff's deputy on patrol spotted the truck on Route 12 and Sayton Road in Fox Lake about 90 minutes after the attacks.

Wilson was arrested and eventually taken to Lake County jail. He is expected back in court May 19 for a preliminary hearing.

Norris said alcohol may have played a role in the attacks, and Wilson and his wife admitted they were drinking before the initial argument starting.
