Suspect sought after robbery at Roselle bank
Video might be the key to leading investigators to an armed robber who remains at large after hitting a Roselle bank.
Authorities said the stickup happened about 1:30 p.m. Friday when a man entered Mutual Bank at 801 E. Nerge Road and demanded money from the teller. Police said the suspect displayed a black semiautomatic handgun and fled after a teller gave him an undetermined amount of cash.
Roselle police Sgt. Bill Korinek said investigators didn't find any witnesses who could provide information on what direction the bandit fled in a busy commercial stretch of Nerge. He said only bank employees were present when the robbery occurred.
"He walked in, walked out," Korinek said Saturday. "He was in and out of there in a short period of time."
But Mutual Bank is expected to cull video images by Monday at the latest, which may include the robber, Korinek said. He said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now the lead agency on the case.
Police describe the suspect as a white man in 30s, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood, tan camouflage shorts, black sunglasses and a tan "floppy" hat.
Roselle police issued a lock down for a nearby school and two day care facilities. All three buildings were reopened by 3 p.m. Friday.

FBI officials could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday.
