Grayslake Central's O'Rourke fires gem

Kevin O'Rourke looked like a college-bound pitcher Wednesday.

Which was appropriate.

O'Rourke struck out 13 and gave up just 3 singles in leading Grayslake Central's baseball team to a 2-0 win over host Johnsburg in Fox Valley Fox Division action.

O'Rourke just signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Division II power St. Mary's in San Antonio.

"Best I have ever seen Kevin throw," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "He hit his spots and mixed his pitches. We didn't give him much run support so he had to be sharp."

Mike Gentile did provide some offense for Grayslake Central (14-9, 2-3), as the junior belted his third homer of the season. Andrew Hosford added a pair of singles, and Jackson White had a double for the Rams, who left 11 men on base.

"It's frustrating to get the guys on base but not get them in," Whalen said. "That's been our demise all year. Fortunately, Kevin carried us today."

The Rams visit Huntley on Thursday.

Warren 7, Vernon Hills 1: Zach Schneider threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, striking out eight and walking five to earn the win in the North Suburban crossover.

Host Warren (13-10) was led offensively by Jon Frericks (2-for-3, run, RBI), Pat Oliver (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Jeff Johnson (single, walk, RBI, 2 runs) and Sean Kennedy (double).

Maine South 8, Libertyville 1: At Miller Park in Milwaukee, the Wildcats dropped the nonconference game to fall to 16-7.

Dan Raetzman and Ronnie Mack each had 2 hits for Maine South (8-12).
