Rethink move to DuComm, Roselle

On April 15, the Roselle Police Telecommunicators unit was informed that the village was looking into consolidating the dispatch unit and going to DuComm in Glendale Heights.

The village is stating it's a cost-saving measure, but they will still need to hire additional employees to staff the station 24 hours a day along with paying DuComm for its services.

While DuComm does have excellent staff, they can never give the residents, police officers and firefighters the personal service that the current telecommunicators give.

At DuComm, Roselle will just be one of more than a dozen police departments that are dispatched, and residents will no longer get someone who is actually in the town they are calling from and probably someone who has never even been in the town of Roselle.

We, as the telecommunicators of Roselle, are hoping that the village will realize that the possibility of saving a few dollars isn't as important as the quality of service that is currently provided.
