How can lawmakers think of pay hike?
It is appalling that the Democrats in the Illinois House blocked a Republican plan that would have canceled their scheduled pay hike of 2.8 percent. Illinois is in a state of financial crisis and is pushing tax hikes for the taxpayers to fix it.
How can they even consider a pay increase? If a company wants to stay in business they make pay cuts, curb spending and consider layoffs. Any company ran like the state of Illinois would be out of business. Why does our Illinois government continue to spend blindly with taxpayers dollars?
It is no wonder we are in a financial crisis. In a recent Chicago Magazine article, salaries from different occupations were revealed, and government salaries were among the highest. Government was formed to serve the people not to serve themselves.
Bravo to those lawmakers who wanted to block this increase and those who blocked this scheduled pay hike should be ashamed. This is not a Republican versus Democrat issue. This is an issue of fiscal responsibility to the people of Illinois who gave these lawmakers their jobs. This story should been run on the front page and the people of Illinois should be outraged.
