Second fire in 8 months at Oakbrook Terrace restaurant

An Oakbrook Terrace restaurant will be temporarily shut down after its second fire in eight months.

The Redstone American Grill, 13 Lincoln Court, will be shut down for at least a week, officials said, after a fire Wednesday that started in the roof's ventilation system.

York Center Fire Department Chief Andy Bonomo said the fire was reported about 11:45 a.m. by workers in the restaurant.

"It was a pretty good, substantial fire," he said.

Heavy smoke was seen from the roof, which investigators said came from the ventilation system for a rotisserie.

The restaurant had about $225,000 in damage to the roof and in the kitchen.

Bonomo said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes and that all workers were able to escape safely. No customers were in the restaurant at the time, he said.

A firefighter sustained an ankle injury; he was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital.

The restaurant experienced a similar fire at the end of August, which caused about $100,000 in damage. Officials said an air-conditioning unit malfunctioned in that instance, causing the system to overheat and catch fire on the roof.

Bonomo said the fire Wednesday was not ruled to be suspicious.

Fire crews from Oakbrook Terrace, Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Oak Brook and Downers Grove assisted York Center at the scene.
