Another H1N1 case:

The Lake County Health Department on Wednesday reported one additional confirmed case of swine flu. The Illinois Department of Public Health laboratory confirmed that a 32-year-old man from Deerfield tested positive for the HINI virus. He was not hospitalized and is recovering at home. This is the county's fourth confirmed case.

Artists win awards:

Ten Mundelein High School students were among the blue-ribbon winners at the 2009 North Suburban Conference Art Show on May 1, school officials announced. The Mundelein students honored were: Amber Branski, Mikhail Esterkin, John Folta, Katherine Hayward, Melanie Leikam, Maddie Madura, Kelsey Moore, Lauren Reimer, Jorge Salinas and Michelle Whelan.

New president named:

Pat Groody has been named the new president of the Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 board. Judy Sugarman will continue serving as vice president, the board decided at Monday's meeting. New members Karin Lundstedt and Stephen Arthur joined the panel Monday, too. They replace veterans Anne Landgraf and Jan Foreman, who did not seek re-election last month.

Longaberger CEO to speak:

Tami Longaberger, CEO of the famous basket-making business, Longaberger Company, will visit the Northwest suburbs on Thursday, May 7, to give a free presentation that's open to the public. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest Hotel, 3400 W. Euclid Ave., in Arlington Heights. Attendees can enter to win baskets and other Longaberger products. Longaberger will talk about her philosophy of investing in America and the benefits of starting your own Longaberger business. Cathy O'Connell of Palatine, the company's national sales leader, described Tami Longaberger as "an inspiration and role model for women of all ages."
