Bryan Tucker new basketball coach at Barrington High School
Bryan Tucker has been named Wednesday as the new boys basketball coach at Barrington.
Tucker, who has been the coach at Loyola Academy, replaces Marty Dello, who resigned in February to spend more time with his family.
Mike Obsuszt, Barrington's athletic director, touts Tucker as "an outstanding person and one of the state's best basketball coaches."
Tucker comes to Barrington after eight years as head basketball coach at Loyola Academy. Previously, he served as head coach at Marian Catholic High School from 1996 to 2001 and assistant varsity/head sophomore basketball coach at Marist High School and Brother. Rice High School from 1988 to 1996.
Off the court, Tucker has been a guidance counselor or classroom teacher at all four schools.
"We are excited to bring in a coach of Bryan's caliber," said Obsuszt. "I have seen him coach for many years and I believe he is one of the best coaches in Illinois. However, it is his ability to connect with students both as a coach and guidance counselor that is going to make him an excellent addition to Barrington High School."
Tucker has a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree from Chicago State University.
Tucker accumulated an impressive 238-124 overall record during his 13 years as a head coach at both Loyola Academy and Marian Catholic High School, including 11 consecutive winning seasons dating to 1998.
His teams accomplished a string of championships, counting three conferences, five regionals, one sectional and numerous tournaments. He has four "Coach of the Year" awards to his credit. Tucker's 2006-07 Loyola squad, which finished 28-2, reached the No. 22 spot in USA TODAY's Super 25 rankings with former NBA star Michael Jordan's sons, Jeff and Marcus, as guards.
