Thanks for help with injured deer
On April 22 I was driving home on Route 14 outside of Barrington and witnessed a deer run into traffic and get hit. As traffic slowed, I noticed the animal struggling across the lanes, stopping in the median. I stopped and told the officer who had just pulled over that I was a humane investigator for the Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society and could I assist him in any way.
I knelt down and tried to hold the deer who seemed to have a broken hip still as the officer radioed for some assistance. After 10 minutes of struggling to keep the injured animal from thrashing back out into the road I started to panic a little. Nobody seemed to care, yet plenty of drivers were using their horns to complain about the inconvenient slowdown.
Suddenly a car did pull over, and the driver appeared, asking if I could use some help, which I gladly accepted.
I never had a chance to express my appreciation to this person for taking the time to help, but I really am thankful that you did!
Whoever you are, I am very grateful that you helped me to make the deer's last few minutes a little calmer.
