Lake Co. softball roundup

Carmel's softball team played long ball in Game 1 of an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader in Mundelein on Saturday.

The Corsairs won 2-1 thanks to homers from Eden Warnke and Shea Crowley. Rachel Tack earned the win, striking out 15 batters while allowing 3 hits.

Carmel got a homer from Sally Snarski in Game 2 but dropped a 7-1 decision to fall to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the ESCC.

Lakes 7, Lake Zurich 3: The Eagles continued their winning ways, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first of the North Suburban crossover, after the Bears had grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Sarah Braden and Megan Massie had doubles for Lakes, which improved to 16-5.

"This was a team effort with big hits and (hitters) putting the ball in play to move runners from base to base," Eagles coach Bill Hamill said. "The team has been playing as a group for the last 10 or more games by picking each other up in critical situations."

Lake Zurich fell to 18-5.

Stevenson 12, Libertyville 0: The visiting Patriots defeated the Wildcats for the second time in less than 24 hours, as they pounded out 18 hits in improving to 12-7 and 5-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Stevenson was led offensively by Ashley Niedermayer (2-for-5, 2 runs, RBI); Amanda Jaegers (3-for-5, RBI); Allison Micucci (3-for-3, double, RBI); Nicole Duda (2-for-4, 2 RBI); Jordan Willis (2-for-3); and Emma Patrash (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI).

Micucci earned the win, tossing 3 no-hit innings. Katie Loerch pitched the final 3 innings for the Patriots.

Grayslake North 11, Warren 3: At Buffalo Grove, the Knights were paced offensively by Carly Borders (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI); Jacquelyn Damore (3-for-4); Samantha Fletcher (3-for-5, 2 RBI); and Kristi Gandy (2-for-4, 3 RBI).

Gandy earned the win, striking out seven.

Buffalo Grove 2, Grayslake North 1: At Buffalo Grove, the host Bison scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.

Knights pitcher Samantha Myers had 15 strikeouts, while walking none and allowing just 5 hits. Carly Borders homered for North's run.

Antioch 9, Grayslake North 1: At Buffalo Grove, Samie Seamon homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs, as the Sequoits won their first of three games on the day.

Ashley Mysliwiec and Jessie Liszka each went 2-for-3 with a double. Mysliwiec earned the win, striking out six, while allowing 4 hits and no walks. The 1 run she allowed was unearned.

Raquel Ness was 2-for-3 for the Knights.

Antioch 8, Warren 0: At Buffalo Grove, Olivia Duehr fired a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks, as the Sequoits won their second game of the day.

Duehr (3-for-3, 3 RBI) and Allie Anttila (2-for-4, 2 RBI) both homered. Duehr, Samie Seamon and Ashley Mysliwiec all doubled.

Buffalo Grove 3, Antioch 2: In their last of three games on the day at Buffalo Grove, the Sequoits lost when the host Bison scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Antioch (18-2) fell despite outhitting Buffalo Grove 11-4. The Sequoits got 2-hit games from Samie Seamon, Olivia Duehr, Ashley Mysliwiec, Cat Dinklenburg (home run) and Jen Precht (double). Mysliwiec suffered the loss.
