Firefighter hurt in Batavia house fire
Batavia firefighters are investigating the cause of a Saturday afternoon house fire that left one firefighter injured and caused $200,000 in damage.
According to department reports, firefighters arrived just after 1 p.m. to the home at 428 Laurel St. to find heavy smoke coming from the home and fire in the basement laundry and storage room.
More than 30 firefighters from six area departments worked for about a half-hour extinguishing the fire and more than four hours ventilating smoke from the home.
No residents were injured, but an unidentified firefighter was treated and released for a shoulder injury at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.
Firefighters estimate damage to the home to be about $150,000 and $50,000 in damage to the home's contents.
