Dietitian honored:

Toby Smithson, RD, LDN, registered dietitian with the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, was selected as the 2009 Outstanding Dietitian of the Year for Illinois. Smithson was selected based on her active participation and achievements at the district, state and national level of the dietetic association. Only one dietitian is selected per state. For the past 17 years, Smithson has worked as the Health Department's community dietitian.

Dance concert set:

The Stevenson High School dance department hosts its annual spring dance concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $5. The concert will feature a variety of dance styles, including modern, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. The show will be in the performing arts center at the school, which is on Route 22 west of Milwaukee Avenue in Lincolnshire.

Free Health Screenings at Gurnee Mills:

Free health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index (BMI), physical balance and foot evaluation will be offered to the public on Saturday, May 2 at Gurnee Mills Shopping Center, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Graduate students from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, under the supervision of trained and licensed faculty members and physicians, will provide the free screenings through a mobile clinic for the underserved and uninsured population of Lake County. Learn about dragonflies:

The Lake County Audubon Society will sponsor Dragonflies in Lake County, a talk by Craig Stettner on Monday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be in the second floor meeting room of Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook St. The program is free. Craig Stettner, odonate monitoring coordinator for the Dragonfly Monitoring Network in Northeastern Illinois, will give a presentation about some of the dragonflies and damselflies that inhabit Lake County.
