Antioch edges Vernon Hills in 12
A day after Vernon Hills handed Antioch's softball team its first loss of the season, the Sequoits got payback.
It just took them 12 innings to do it.
Antioch edged host Vernon Hills 3-2 in 12 innings to improve to 16-1 and 7-1 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
The Sequoits - who lost 1-0 Monday - scored the winning run with two out when Cat Dinklenburg crossed the plate on Samie Seamon's groundball that bounced off an infielder's glove for an error. Dinklenburg had led off the 12th with a single.
Antioch's Olivia Duehr had 16 strikeouts in 9 innings. Ashley Mysliwiec - who had a 2-run single in the fifth to pull the Sequoits even - pitched 3 innings in relief for the win.
Adriana Longobardi hit a 2-run homer for Vernon Hills (10-4, 3-3).
Warren 6, Stevenson 5: Lindsay Horwitz was 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and winning pitcher Kayla Hurd aided her own cause by going 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI in the North Suburban Lake Division contest, which was moved to Stevenson.
Sarah Clauser (2 runs) and Teja Bloom (RBI) each went 2-for-3 for Warren (7-10, 3-2), which was considered the home team. Hurd struck out 12, allowing 4 hits and 3 walks, in a complete-game effort.
Stevenson (10-7, 3-1) got a 2-run double from Ashley Niedermayer.
Lake Zurich 10, Libertyville 0: Megan Mattera blasted her fifth home run of the season, as the Bears improved to 17-4 and 4-2 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
The Bears got 2 hits apiece from Paige Goldberg (3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, RBI), Coryn Scmit (triple, 4 RBI) and Kelli Blume (stolen base, RBI).
Mattera improved to 11-3 in the circle, striking out 13 and walking one in pitching a 2-hitter over 6 innings.
Lakes 15, Round Lake 1: Venelle Christiansen homered for the Eagles in the North Suburban Prairie Division game.
