Nothing to gain from hearing 911 call
My thanks to the editorial board of the Daily Herald for being the only Chicago area news source to have the proper vision and discretion to withhold the 911 audiotape of the Engelhardt murders from your Web site.
I realize you are reporters and it is your professional duty to report what is newsworthy; but you are first and foremost human beings and that should always be your guide. There is nothing for the public to gain by actually hearing the voices in the midst of the tragedy of that night.
Anyone intelligent enough to read the account of what happened quickly gathers the sense of the horror and panic of the moment - a situation that had spiraled totally out of control. There is no need to invite ourselves into the darkest moments of a another person's life, nothing for the public to gain - only a blood lust to be satisfied until the next time another person's trudge becomes the public's few moments of entertainment.
