SWAT team probes Schaumburg robbery, possible hostage situation

A SWAT team was summoned to a Schaumburg apartment early this morning after a man told police he'd been bound and robbed there by four people with guns.

Police said the situation on the 2300 block of Pennview Lane was "successfully resolved" by 5:30 a.m. but are still sorting out what happened and who, if anyone, to charge.

It started just before 1 a.m., when a 39-year-old Hanover Park man showed up at the Hanover Park police station to say he'd been robbed at gunpoint in a Schaumburg apartment and that there were other victims still tied up inside, Schaumburg police said.

After patrol officers observed activity inside the apartment, the scene was secured and the SWAT team assembled. It is an Emergency Services Team of the the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.

One man was taken into custody who is being questioned by detectives attempting to determine if he is a victim or suspect, police said.

As far as police knew, no one was injured. They were trying to determine how many perpetrators and victims were involved.
