Salary to charity breath of fresh air
I have yet to meet the new DuPage County Board member, Tony Michelassi, but anyone who will distribute about $815 a month to charities sounds good enough to me. And he does not even try to take credit for the idea, like most campaigners or elected officials usually do in a "me first" fashion. He gets an "attaboy" for giving county board member Dirk Enger credit for the idea. And Enger should be congratulated for following through on his original idea of donating a portion of the big county board salary to charity. He always seems to follow through on anything I have ever heard him talk about. In the past several years I have meet him many times at various meetings for different issues and groups. He remembers my many concerns (environmental, trails and safe roadways) and comments about them (and I do not live in his district). He is not the typical "glad handier" that gives you a canned speech. In my volunteer work of many years in this area I have gotten to know many different county board members (some very good ones like the late John Noel), and Dirk Enger is one of the best I have met. Michelassi is following an excellent example. Congratulations to both for "walking the talk." A breath of fresh air in DuPage County.
