Hawks believe referees missed violation on key goal

The Blackhawks weren't kicking and screaming about it after their 6-4 loss in Game 4 on Wednesday, but they did think a whistle should have blown for a hand pass moments before Eric Nystrom scored with 6:56 to play, snapping a 4-4 tie.

"I saw what you saw," Hawks coach Joen Quenneville said.

Take that as a yes that Quenneville thought there should have been a whistle.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, neither referee, Tim Peel or Mike Leggo, saw the hand pass.

"Stuff like that happens, I guess," captain Jonathan Toews said. "After every game in this series there's always things both teams can say. They scored a big goal there. You work hard and get your breaks, I guess."

Roy suspended: Flames tough guy Andre Roy, who played less than four minutes in Game 4, was suspended by the NHL for Game 5 on Thursday because of an incident in the pregame skate.

The league said Roy initiated contact with Hawks defenseman Aaron Johnson in the warmup. Roy also was fined $2,500.

Face the music: Hawks defenseman Cam Barker didn't hide from the media after Game 4 when he made a bad turnover early in the second period that resulted in a goal for Olli Jokinen and a 2-1 Flames lead.

"It turned the momentum for them, but we found a way to get back into it," Barker said. "It was just a bad turnover."

Giving it up: The Flames blew a lead in Game 4 for the third time in the series, although they battled back to win.

It was 4-4 after two periods with the Flames blowing a 4-1 lead.

"We thought we would still find a way to win," Calgary captain Jarome Iginla said. "We got our legs back and just got back at it. They had a great burst there at the end of the second period."

Keith no finalist: The Professional Hockey Writers announced the three finalists for the Norris Trophy on Thursday, and Duncan Keith didn't make the cut.

Voted the three finalists were Boston's Zdeno Chara, Washington's Mike Green and Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom.

Tip-ins: The team that has scored the first goal has lost the first four games in this series- Brent Seabrook was the only Hawk with more than 2 hits in Game 5 - Five Flames had 3 hits or more led by Eric Nystrom's 5- Martin Havlat played 21 minutes with 1 shot on goal and was minus-4.
