Get facts straight on Free Choice Act
I wish I had a dollar for every time I hear the pro-business talking point that the Employee Free Choice Act eliminates the secret ballot in the union formation process.
I saw it again recently in a letter to the editor. I even saw it in the op-ed by the Daily Herald editorial board when they came out against EFCA.
One more time - the Employee Free Choice Act does not eliminate the secret ballot. I suggest you read the bill; it is available at the Open Congress Web site (HR 1409).
Just remember, it amends the original National Labor Relations Act (NLRA or the Act; 29 U.S.C. 151-169) which established the secret ballot. EFCA adds provisions to Section 9c of the NLRA giving workers more control; it does not eliminate the secret ballot already established in the NLRA.
