Meet with assessor:

Blackberry Township Assessor Uwe Rotter will conduct a taxpayer workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Blackberry Township building, 43W390 Main Street Road, Elburn. Taxpayers will learn about the property tax cycle, how assessments are developed and the appeal process. They will have the opportunity to address specific questions concerning their property and ask any other property tax questions. Call (630) 365-6580.

Bison, birds and bugs:

Fermilab's Family Outdoor Activity Fair is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. It is free, but registration is required. Send an e-mail with the number of children and adults attending to edreg@fnal.gov. Activities are designed for children ages 5 to 12 and include making a sun dial and learning about birds of prey. They will also visit the bison pen to check for calves. For details, visit fnal.gov.

Fundraiser for library:

The Aurora Public Library Foundation is holding its first fundraising reception and auction, "Imagine ... the Possibilities" at 6 p.m. Friday at SciTech Hands-On Museum, 18 W. Benton St., next to the main branch of the Aurora Public Library. Proceeds will be used to buy a van to deliver library materials to homebound residents. The van also will make visits to preschools and Montessori schools. Tickets are $60. For details, call (630) 264-4154 or visit aurora.lib.il.us.

Geneva math wizards:

The Geneva Middle School North math team placed first, and the Geneva Middle School South team second, in the annual junior high mathematics contest March 29 at the Illinois Math and Science Academy. North student Shayla Carey placed second as an individual, the North seventh-grade team placed second as a team and third for individual total, and the eighth-grade team placed second for school invididual total. An eighth-grade squad consisting of Brittany Reynolds, Ryan Rasmussen, Ruthie Prisco and Colin Lillibridge placed first. Other North school team members include seventh-graders Dan Creighton, Eric Plotz, Hallie McQueeny, Grace Ren, Dan Dudman, Blaine Bartel and Hope Goodman, and eighth-graders Kelly Sharpe, Sam Ford, Marissa Wilkins, Victoria Cooley, Andrew Thomas and Jeremy Feinberg. South eighth-grader Brandon Sloan took an individual first place. The South eighth-grade team of Ajai Pasupuleti, Nate White, Margaret Mahoney and Katie Reis placed second. The South creative thinking team of Nate White and Noelle Evelend placed second. Other South team members include Anand Patel, Madison Olesen, Destin Tunca, Becca Grischow, Cal O'Connor, Elizabeth Koskiewicz, Brian Dahlberg, Emma Pappas, Jamie Maher and Alana Goodrich.
