Reception May 5 for officials, public
Mount Prospect residents are invited to a reception May 5, before the board meeting, to congratulate Mayor Irvana Wilks and Trustee Michael Zadel on their re-election and trustees Steve Polit and John Matuszak on their election to the village board.
Polit and Matuszak were appointed to the board in 2008 to complete the unexpired terms of Richard Lohrstorfer and Timothy Corcoran, but now have been elected in their own right.
The reception will be held from 6-6:55 p.m., in the Mount Prospect Village Hall Community Center, 50 South Emerson St., followed at 7 p.m. by the village board meeting and swearing-in ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.
Spring clean with Salt Creek Park Dist.
Salt Creek Park District invites local residents to make the most of their spring cleaning this year by reserving a table at the Spring Community Garage Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 22. Residents of Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights and Palatine are invited to sell their own items or browse the goods on display at the Twin Lakes Recreation Area tent. For a fee of $6, residents get a 10-foot by 10-foot space and 8-foot table. This event is for all ages. Call Jessica Hart at (847) 259-6890.
Des Plaines marks Earth, Arbor days
Des Plaines is launching an "Idling Gets You Nowhere" campaign in conjunction with Earth Day, today, April 22, and will have an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony April 24, at Algonquin Middle School, 767 E. Algonquin Road.
The anti-idling campaign will include public education about car idling and designation of pilot "idle-free" zones at Union Pacific freight line crossings at Oakton, Algonquin and Thacker.
At the tree planting ceremony, Mayor Tony Arredia will read the Arbor Day proclamation at 10 a.m. and help students plant a tree on the school grounds, donated by Lurvey's Garden Center.
Buffalo Grove has health, wellness fair
The Village of Buffalo Grove will host a health and wellness fair Saturday, April 25, with 17 local health care providers who will provide yoga and boot camp sessions as well as advice on bringing health care home, among other things.
Participants will also provide blood pressure, colon, cholesterol, glucose screenings and more.
This basic event is free admission to the public but some of the screenings offered may be subject to fees. The fair is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 25, at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard.
