Feuding DuPage moms duke it out at children's art show

A simmering feud between two moms erupted into a full-fledged brawl during a Medinah Intermediate School art show Thursday.

DuPage County sheriff's office spokeswoman Dawn Domrose said the two women were both transported to an unnamed hospital for injuries suffered in the fracas, but investigators are still trying to determine what charges should be levied against the combatants.

Sheriff's deputies, Roselle police and ambulances from both Roselle and Itasca responded to the fight that was reported at about 6:30 p.m.

Medinah Elementary District 11 Superintendent Joe Bailey said the two women were at odds over disciplinary action taken against one of the women's children recently by the school. Bailey said both women have children who attend the school, which is for third, fourth and fifth graders, at 7N330 Medinah Road in Roselle.

"This is an ongoing issue between these two folks, but we had no idea it would erupt like this," he said. "It's unfortunate that sometimes our adults don't practice what we preach to their children."

Bailey said the fight did not last long as other parents intervened to separate the mothers. No one else was injured in the fight, Domrose said.

Bailey said the art show continued until its scheduled 8 p.m. closing after the women were removed.

"It's one of our capstone student performance evenings," he said. "It's just a one night thing and we were able to go on."
