Stevenson moves onto Snowbowl final

No snow, no problem for Stevenson's girls soccer team, which nonetheless will play for Lake Forest's Snowbowl championship Saturday.

On a sunny and warm Friday at Lake Forest, the Patriots stayed unbeaten by edging Prairie Ridge 3-2.

Stevenson prevailed in shootout kicks by a 5-4 margin, and advanced to Saturday's 12:30 p.m. Snowbowl title match against the host school at Lake Forest's west campus.

Nicole Sodomire scored a pair of goals for Stevenson (4-0-3). Marlee Luskin was credited with the other goal and Shana Manning picked up an assist.

The Patriots had not allowed a goal all season.

"It was pretty close to a playoff-level excitement," Stevenson coach Mark Schartner said. "We needed to finally get rid of the shutout thing and now we know we can come back. And we know how to score on kicks."

Sodomire has scored 4 of her 5 goals over the last two games in the tournament.

"We're just working well together and getting balls to go through," Sodomire said.

Lake Forest 3, Carmel 0: At Lake Forest, Carmel (8-1, 1-1) saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end.

Nicole Lipp scored twice and assisted on Megan Bourne's goal. Rachel Quon had 2 assists for the Scouts (6-1, 2-0).

"A goal could have changed things, but that was a real quality team we played," Carmel coach John Halloran said. "We didn't play with the intensity we needed to beat a Lake Forest. I don't mind losing a nonconference game if we can learn from it."

Lakes 4, Mother McAuley 0: In the Snowball tournament at Lake Forest, the Eagles got second-half goals out of Michelle Kosmen, Ashley Chernich, Ashley Neubeck and Kate Mason.

Meanwhile, goalie Sarah Fitzpatrick had 8 saves for Lakes (5-3, 1-1) en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Antioch 3, Westosha (Wis.) Central 0: Antioch got 2 goals from Katrina Holm and 1 goal from Melissa Spooner in the shutout.

Goalkeeper Katie Budd had 1 save for the Sequoits (2-4-2).

Evanston 2, Libertyville 1: With just 1:40 left, Evanston knocked in the winning goal to drop Libertyville to 0-5 on the season.

The Wildcats' goal came from Jen DiVincenzo off a Christina Sickert assist.

Huntley 1, Grayslake Central 0: The Rams had their seven-game winning streak halted by Huntley in overtime.

Goalie Kat Dickson made 8 saves for the Rams (7-3).
