Seat-belt stop in Round Lake leads to marijuana arrest

A simple seat belt violation in Round Lake resulted in the cannabis arrest against a Lake in the Hills man, Round Lake police announced Thursday.

Scott M. Treece, 21, of the 3800 block of Thornberry Way in Lake in The Hills, has been charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia following the traffic stop on Tuesday, officials said.

Officials said officers observed Treece driving a silver 2001 Ford Escort without wearing his seat belt, and pulled him over.

During the traffic stop, the officer received consent from Treece to search the passenger area of the vehicle. The search resulted in the discovery of 3 grams of marijuana, officials said.

After placing Treece under arrest, officials said a further search of the car resulted in the discovery of a shoe box in the trunk of the vehicle that contained three additional bags of marijuana totaling 84 grams.

Officials also discovered a portable scale that had been disguised as iPhone and a pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana.

Treece was transported to bond court in Waukegan where he received a $5,000 bond.

Among the items found when Treece was arrested was a scale disguised as an iPhone.
