Train joins Last Fling:

Train is the latest band to be added to the entertainment slate for this year's Last Fling celebration in Naperville. The Grammy Award-winning rock band will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 6 at Rotary Hill as part of the Labor Day weekend festival sponsored by the Naperville Jaycees. For details, visit www.LastFling.org.

Wheaton warns of burglaries:

Wheaton police are reminding residents to lock their cars following reports of multiple burglaries in the city. Police say 24 vehicles have been burglarized since the start of the year and most had been left unlocked. Last year a total of 151 burglaries to vehicles were reported. In addition to locking vehicle doors, residents are reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles and to call 911 if they observe anyone or anything suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to call Wheaton police Cmdr. Joseph Eversole at (630) 260-2056.

Safety check planned:

District 15 Illinois State Police will conduct a roadside safety check from 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, to 2 a.m. Saturday, April 18, along I-355 near Lombard. The detail will be held on the I-355 ramp at North Avenue and Plaza 75, police said. Officers will be looking for motorists driving under the influence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, operating unsafe vehicles and driving with a suspended or revoked driver's licenses. The safety check is funded through a federal grant administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Volunteers sought for cleanup:

Wheaton's Environmental Improvement Commission is seeking volunteers to participate in the Illinois Prairie Path cleanup planned for 9 a.m. to noon April 25. Last year, more than 200 people participated in the part of the cleanup held in Wheaton. Volunteers must bring work gloves and meet at Stevens Park at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and the Prairie Path (two blocks east of Gary Avenue). Wagons and carts also are helpful. Volunteers will be given maps of assigned areas, trash bags and refreshments. Any group wanting to clean a specific area should call (630) 260-2870 to reserve that location.
