Emergency landing at Aurora airport

A small airplane that had issues with a malfunctioning right wheel, on Wednesday afternoon made a safe landing into Aurora Municipal Airport, officials said.

The plane had taken off from Midway Airport in Chicago and by 12:13 p.m., was reporting problems with releasing its right wheel, said Chief Marty Kunkel of the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District.

"We got quick notification that he started having problems right when he took off," Kunkel said.

There were two passengers aboard the plane, which circled around the Aurora airport four times while the pilot resolved the wheel issue, Kunkel said. The plane made a safe landing and no injuries were reported, Kunkel said.

The Aurora airport accommodates airplanes taking off from Midway that are dealing with emergency situations in midair.

Sugar Grove, Aurora and North Aurora fire personnel responded to the scene.
