Incumbents get vote of support in Addison
Addison residents decided now isn't the time for change.
Longtime Mayor Larry Hartwig and three incumbent trustees Harry Theodore, Sylvia Layne and Richard Veenstra along with incumbent Clerk Lucille Zucchero retained their seats in Tuesday's election.
Hartwig secured a fourth term by defeating write-in candidate and Addison Police Sgt. Joe Lullo. With all precincts reporting, unofficial totals show Hartwig took 2,523, or 74.76 percent of total votes cast. Write-in ballots were not counted as of late Tuesday.
"I'm very grateful to the people of Addison for continuing to show their support for myself and of the people I'm working with," Hartwig said. "I'm looking forward to continuing to serve them."
Theodore brought in 2,305 votes, Layne earned 2,327 votes and Veenstra netted 2,245 votes. They were challenged by Marcia Montesdeoca with 805 votes, George Georgis with 894 votes and Angelo Chrysogelos with 952, according to unofficial results. Zucchero, who took 2,653 votes, defeated Cherie Ochoa, who secured 766 votes.
A key issue has been redevelopment and attracting more retail businesses.
"We have some fiscal challenges with the economy that we're facing at this time, but I'm confident that we're going to overcome that and continue plans for the redevelopment of our Town Center and our community as we go forward," Hartwig said.
