Parade seeks grand marshal:
Glen Ellyn is seeking nominations for the grand marshal of its July 4 parade. An individual, group or organization may be nominated. This year's parade will celebrate several historic milestones - Glen Ellyn's 175th anniversary, Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday, and Grace Lutheran Church's centennial. Sale supports Olympics:
Naperville Park District police officers and members of North Central College's Department of Public Safety are selling clothing items and raffles tickets to support the Illinois Special Olympics. Sale items include T-shirts for $15, hats for $15 and commemorative lapel pins for $5. Raffle tickets are $10 and buy the opportunity to win a 2009 Harley-Davidson SuperGlide custom motorcycle and five, big screen HDTVs. Park district police officers and North Central public safely officers also will participate in the Illinois torch Run on June 7 to support Special Olympics. T-shirts tell of violence:
Aurora University will play host to "The Clothesline Project," a display of T-shirts handmade by victims of domestic violence, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Dunham Hall lobby, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. The free display, sponsored the university's Social Work Association, features 30 shirts hanging on clothesline ropes. Visitors are invited to donate new or used plain T-shirts that will be given to domestic violence victims to design. For details, call (630) 844-5794.
Park district seeks volunteers:
Fox Valley Park District is seeking volunteers for its Spring Spruce-Up from 9 a.m. to noon April 25. Volunteers will join park staff at park sites and trails to pick up litter, haul light brush and remove invasive plant species. Volunteers will be placed in sites that are closest to their homes.
