St. Charles North drill teams make splash at state
The St. Charles North Varsity and Junior Varsity Drill teams recently competed in Peoria at the Team Dance Illinois State championship.
The varsity team added one more title to their nine state championships with winning the open pom division. They also earned a second-place state trophy in the lyrical dance division. The highlight of the day was when the varsity drill team was named the "AAA" Grand Champions of Dance. This award is given to the team with highest combined score of both dances performed at the state competition. The grand champion award winner is recognized as the best overall large school dance team in the state of Illinois for 2009.
The junior varsity dance team also won their second straight state "Elite" championship title, and 10th state title overall. They competed against seven other top junior varsity teams from around the state in the state Elite Eight competition. This competition is only open to the top eight teams in the state of Illinois and the St. Charles North Junior Varsity Drill team beat all of them with their open dance performance.
