Let's put Howell back on Hoffman park board

I am writing to let the voters in the Hoffman Estates Park District know that they have a chance to elect a person that is dedicated and has a passion for the park district. His name is Wendell Howell.

He has 12 years experience as a volunteer for the park district, eight of those years as a former commissioner. He is an Illinois Association of Park District Master Board Member. He has helped to keep taxes low while providing quality programs, parks and facilities. He has played an integral role in acquiring state grant money for the Hoffman Estates Park District. He takes to time to attend park district events where he volunteers when he is needed or to show his support. He has attended over 90 percent of all meetings in the last 10 years.

If elected he wants to work with staff to create programs to help fight childhood obesity. One such program is an active gaming arcade with the latest video and electronic games that kids can play by moving their body. They can run, jump, punch and even dance their way through different game stations. They can get fit, lose weight or sharpen their sports skills while they play. The other one is to work with staff to improve and create better bike and walking trails. To improve and create better bike and walking trails was the number one response on the latest survey of residents.

He believes that the park district needs to maintain and improve current facilities and parks before building new ones. One example is to improve Sycamore Park before building two permanent restroom facilities at the golf course (one this year and one next year).

Join me in voting for Wendell Howell for park district commissioner on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
