Incumbents are part of a team on West Chicago council

In West Chicago wards 2 and 3, challengers Roy Volkert and Alton Hallett are raising similar issues. Both are concerned about enforcement of occupancy limits and cracking down on people doing construction without a permit.

Incumbents Ron Monroe and Russell Radkiewicz say both issues are being addressed when complaints are filed or by contracted inspectors who make spot checks at various hours around town to make sure everyone doing construction has a permit.

Moreover, the incumbents point to successes the city has seen in the last four years. While neither claims credit, both say they are proud to be part of the city council at a time when the police department earned accreditation, a housing program became available to help people avoid foreclosure or buy a first home, and the level of community pride overall is growing.

Both incumbents say these kinds of things are part of the overall progress of the city and are possible because of a city council made up of members who work together.

Both appear to be solid, committed elected officials who want to make West Chicago better. Neither challenger makes the case that they would do a better job than the incumbents.

We endorse Ron Monroe in Ward 2 and Russell Radkiewicz in Ward 3.
