Rondout District 72 needs knowledgeable candidates

Six candidates are seeking four board seats in Rondout Elementary District 72. Incumbents Keith Gray and Mark Schweitzer have served the board well during their past tenure and will continue to do so if re-elected. Gray, a recent state Senate candidate in the 30th District, brings impressive relationships with the State Board of Education to the slate. His knowledge of how the school district works and the challenges ahead make him a smart choice and he is endorsed.

Schweitzer understands the fiscal responsibilities of the district, and his current position as school board president reflects his commitment to Rondout's students and parents. Incumbent Roger Lane is a dedicated school board member. Lane and Schweitzer also are endorsed.

Newcomers Kim Sturonas and Bernard Tucker both have children attending Rondout, and this brings invaluable insight and perspective to what the students need and parents want from the district. Both are smart and levelheaded when talking about improving education and how future growth in the district will surely help Rondout stay ahead of the game.

Sturonas, however, provides a critical voice that will push to do better and is endorsed.

While we respect incumbent John Henry Turner's experience and dedication to the school district, the Daily Herald can't endorse him because he didn't respond to our attempts to get in touch with him.
