A Schaumburg eatery worth flying for
It's not quite like sailing to China just for the eggrolls, but it's close.
Pilot Pete's, the restaurant at Schaumburg Regional Airport, was recently named as one of ten "Best of the Best" airport restaurants by pilots surveyed for the electronic publication, "The $100 Hamburger."
The expression "$100 hamburger" is aviation slang for a pilot looking for an excuse to fly by going to eat at a nonlocal airport.
For the past 13 years, the Web site that shares the name has become a respected guide for pilots looking to do just that.
Pilot Pete's was ranked fourth in the nation, out of 1,675 airport restaurants sampled. An annual survey is sent to the Web site's currently 54,000 subscribers to determine the top-ranked locations.
