Quenneville tweaking his lines

Finding what he feels are the right line combinations for the playoffs is still a work in progress for Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville.

In particular, Quenneville must decide who plays with center Sammy Pahlsson on a potential checking line.

Patrick Kane has moved to Pahlsson's line for now with Kris Versteeg, but it's possible a checking line of Pahlsson and perhaps Andrew Ladd and Troy Brouwer could happen at some point down the stretch.

That could leave a potential first line of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Kane, with a second line of Dave Bolland, Martin Havlat and either Versteeg or Dustin Byfuglien.

"(Pahlsson) has had a couple different looks as we've gone along here," Quenneville said. "Bolland's unit has been pretty consistent all year in their effectiveness, and Johnny's had a couple different looks on the wing with him.

"I still think that who's going to be playing with (Pahlsson) is going to be a work in progress."

With Byfuglien facing possibly being out of the top nine at forward, Quenneville shot down the idea of him going back to defense, at least for now.

"I still think having him up front is a big presence this time of the year," Quenneville said. "I like that (defense) option on a need basis, but to force it when everybody is healthy might be tough to make it happen."

Injury report: Defenseman Cam Barker didn't practice Tuesday because of a lower-body injury, but Joel Quenneville said he might play Wednesday night.

Quenneville said Matt Walker (upper body) won't play.

If Barker plays either Aaron Johnson or Jordan Hendry would come out of the lineup.

J.R. sighting: While the Sharks will be missing four regulars, Jeremy Roenick is expected to play for San Jose for the first time since Feb. 28, when he reinjured his shoulder.

"J.R. has an energy to him," Shark coach Todd McClellan told reporters after practice Tuesday. "J.R. doesn't have to come in and be a savior. We just need him to come in and be J.R."

It's possible this could be Roenick's last game in Chicago should he decide to retire after the season.
