Incumbents' experience, McGrory get nod in Dist. 70

Voters in Libertyville Elementary District 70 may have a tough time this year. The problem? A veritable bounty of qualified, enthusiastic candidates vying for school board. Come April 7, voters will be confronted with the names of three hardworking incumbents and eight eager newcomers running for four 4-year seats. They'd be well-served by any of them, and we expect to see more of these men and women in the years to come. Yet, it's hard to look past the experience and long years of service of the incumbents: Laura Beltchenko, Inna Kerrigan and Joy Schwerman, who are endorsed. Yes, they've all served several terms. Yes, their children are older and not currently attending Libertyville elementary schools. But their credentials are solid, their commitment to the district unwavering and their educational backgrounds indisputable. And they provide consistency as the district transitions to a new superintendent. Still, the board can use new blood and we see that in lawyer Tim McGrory, who is also endorsed. He has young children, experience with a law firm that has worked with school boards and an understanding of the board's role. He'd be a fine addition.

Also offering voters good choices are Anne Brandt, Cathy Jackson, Jennifer Lund, Thomas Milowski, Jason Newman, Patrick Quenan and Tom Vickers.
