Newest dry cleaners friendly to environment

A handful of dry cleaners throughout Chicagoland has been using GreenEarth products to remove stains and dirt from clothes for the past couple of years.

But now the first free-standing branded GreenEarth dry cleaners has opened in Illinois, right along the Randall Road corridor.

The store, which boasts environmentally friendly dry cleaning services, sits right on the border of St. Charles and South Elgin. Both communities will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to welcome the new business and owners Bob Linville and Tom Mesi.

Manager Don Narter says unlike some traditional dry cleaning businesses, GreenEarth at 478 S. Randall doesn't use hazardous chemicals to clean clothes, but instead uses pure liquid silicone.

Narter says the process is also better on the clothes, keeping them bright, white and feeling good.

"It's been quite an attraction so far to customers, seeing that we are truly environmentally safe," Narter said. "We think this is the way people want to go when they realize what we offer."

In addition to green products, GreenEarth also offers a drive-through window with a sliding-glass door, where employees will come and put the clothes right in your car.

GreenEarth also has a 24-hour lockbox, where they can leave your clothes if you need to pick them up when the business is closed.

While this is the first GreenEarth store in Illinois, Narter said the owners are hoping to open more in the future.

"We're thinking of five or six more. We'll see how things go. So far, people have been happy to have us," he said.
