Woman charged in Sugar Grove fatal
An Elburn woman was cited Monday in connection with a crash that killed a Marengo man Friday, police said.
Linda L. Knotts, 44, is charged with passing in a no-passing zone, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving in the wrong lane.
Police said Knotts was southbound on Route 47 at Merrill Road near Sugar Grove about 5:30 p.m. Friday when her pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with a Ford Windstar driven by William J. McKenzie, 54, of Marengo.
McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene, between Harter and Scott roads. Knotts was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.
Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said the accident remained under investigation Monday and additional charges are possible.
"Quite a few people have come forward and wanted to provide information on this," Gengler said. "It appears she (Knotts) was passing cars but we do not have a speed or a cause."
Witnesses are asked to call Det. Sal Rodriguez at (630) 208-2030.
