Consistency key for Millburn District 24

Like so many school districts, Millburn Elementary District 24 is struggling to cut expenses, pay down debt and balance its budget. Hard choices need to be made, and we feel they can best be handled by incumbents Stacy Freeman, Thomas Heinrich and Chris Stream and newcomer David Bending. We endorse the three incumbents in part because they bring a welcome mix of expertise to the board. Freeman has four years of board experience and an educational background. Heinrich is a retired director of human resources at College of Lake County with a master's in sociology. And the straight-talking Stream is both a retired Naval officer and the executive director of a nonprofit agency. They offer continuity and experience as the district transitions to a new superintendent. Bending, meanwhile, would provide a fresh perspective, and his business background would clearly benefit the board going forward. The other challengers - Diane Campbell and Robert Reding - both bring an almost-infectious enthusiasm about Millburn to the table and we'd love to see them continue to be involved.
