3 incumbents, 2 newcomers endorsed in District 34

A mix of experience and fresh faces make up candidates in two Antioch Elementary District 34 races voters will decide.

Seven candidates seek for four, 4-year terms, and two seek one, 2-year term. We endorse incumbent Kenneth Miller for the two-year spot, and incumbents Brent Bluthardt and Tamara Neumann and newcomers Kristin Bolin and Gerry Allen for four-year seats.

Miller, Bluthardt and Newmann are well-versed in issues facing the district and offer sound ideas ranging from ways to improve communications to boosting test scores. Miller chaired the Navigate 34 strategic plan. Of the newcomers, Bolin is a retired teacher with extensive curriculum experience and negotiated union contracts. Allen's background in commercial banking could be an asset in addressing financial and crowding issues. Newcomer James Rapp offered good ideas and is urged to be involved with the district. Incumbent Diane McMahon, and newcomers Scott K. Soltis and Edward L. Walczak Jr. did not participate and cannot be endorsed.
