No endorsement in Wood Dale

We don't envy the voters of Wood Dale's Ward 2 as they consider the candidates for the city's only contested council race. Though both have a record of service and are known in the community, some of their notoriety troubles us. Roy Wesley served a term on the Wood Dale Fire District board, during which he was accused of intimidation and sexual harassment; an internal investigation found the complaints credible. Arthur Wielga, a current Wood Dale Elementary District 7 board member, acknowledges having a DUI on his record and currently is defending himself against a second drunken driving charge. While we appreciate Wielga's command of the issues facing his ward and his proposals for better preparing Wood Dale to handle flooding, we cannot support his candidacy in light of the pending charge. Neither candidate is endorsed.
