Stimulus comes through for Algonquin, Cary
A small piece of President Barack Obama's vast stimulus package has Cary's and Algonquin's names on it.
Both villages are slated to receive $262,000 in stimulus money.
Algonquin leaders intend to use their share to help resurface North Huntington Road, Village President John Schmitt said.
The windfall will subsidize a portion of the project, while the village would pick up the rest, he said.
Cary officials, meanwhile, will use their stimulus cash for improvements on Route 14 at East Main Street, one of Cary's major gateways, Village Administrator Cameron Davis said.
Earlier this month, the McHenry County Council of Mayors received a total of $4.7 million in transportation stimulus funding from the federal government, said Chalen Daigle, the group's planning liaison.
On Thursday, the group split the money up 18 ways to cover 18 planned projects within the county. Each one received the same amount of money.
The council is county's arm for distributing federal transportation funds.
"I think it's an example of great teamwork among the municipalities in McHenry County," Davis said.
Daigle could not provide a list of the other towns scheduled to get the windfall, as she did not know which other projects would continue to move forward.
