Setting record straight on MLK Day

Following this year's Martin Luther King Day, I received an informative and gracious phone call from a sanitation truck driver. He said that the union, not the truck companies, set the holiday calendar for the workers. So, Veolia and Waste Management are not to blame for their employees not being able to have the day off to commemorate and celebrate the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ironically, the unions apparently are the ones who need social sensitivity training to learn about the ultimate sacrifice that Dr. King made on behalf of their workers.
