Robbery arrest made

An Antioch man was arrested after he robbed a Waukegan currency exchange with a device made to look like a bomb, police said. The robbery occurred about 11 a.m. Sunday at Casa De Cambio Latino, 1550 Grand Avenue. Alonzo Almanza, 39, of the 26000 block of West Shannon, was charged with aggravated robbery. Police said Almanza was wearing dark clothes and a scarf on his face when he entered the business, demanded money and threatened to blow up the building with what appeared to be a pipe bomb taped to a cellular phone. He fled with an undisclosed amount of money but left the device, police said. Authorities later determined the device was not capable of detonating. Almanza was arrested following an investigation, police said.
