Isn't there a better word than 'hero?'

So often we hear our military, nurses, doctors, teachers, firemen, policemen, etc. referred to as "heroes." They are not heroes; they are normal socially responsible Americans. Yes they are called upon to perform heroic acts from time to time but that is what responsible Americans do.

What we need to do is find another term to refer to those who make a career out of taking and giving nothing of value in return.
