Library expansion approved

Expansion plans for Cook Memorial Public Library can go out for bids following approval Tuesday by the Libertyville village board. Village trustees accepted the zoning board of appeals report that includes variations for open space and signs. The library intends to build an 11,450-square-foot addition to be used as a children's center and provide space for a service window and book drop. Construction could begin in June and continue for a year. The library plans to move out of the main facility at 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., during construction into a temporary space to be determined.

Women to be honored

The Lake County Women's Coalition will honor 13 women at the annual Women's History Month Celebration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gurnee police station, 100 N. O'Plaine Road. The theme of the event is "Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet." The coalition will honor a woman from each member organization whose innovative and pioneering leadership is supporting the environmental movement.

Lake Villa Township offers $1,000 scholarship

The Lake Villa Township Republican Club has announced a $1,000 scholarship available to students living in Lake Villa Township. The money will be awarded to students who live in the township and are accepted in college as a full-time student. They will be evaluated on their level of participation in public and civic affairs. Forest board to meet

The Lake County Forest Preserve District board will meet Tuesday to discuss a proposed addition to the Hastings Lake preserve near Lake Villa and other issues. The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., or after that morning's county board meeting. It will be held at the county government center, 18 N. County St., Waukegan.
